Math riddle =3
An insurance salesman walks into a house, looking to sell insurance to the family that lives there.
The mother of the family answers the door, the salesman starts chatting with her. He asks questions about her family, to get her to buy an insurance.
He asks:
-Do you have any kids?
She replies:
-Yes, I have 3 kids.
"How old are they?" He asks. "If you can guess the age of my children, I'll buy the insurance"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-I have 3 children. The product of their ages is 36.
-If you add their ages together, it's the number of the house next door.
The salesman goes to the house next door, looks at the number and says to the mother:
-I need one more clue.
She replies:
-My eldest daughter plays the piano.
Re: Math riddle =3
here's the answer and explanation
- Spoiler:
The answer is 2,2,9 y/o
the product of their age is 36, therefore there's 8 possibilities
- 1 1 36 sum = 38
- 1 2 18 sum = 21
- 1 3 12 sum = 16
- 1 4 9 sum = 14
- 1 6 6 sum = 13
- 2 2 9 sum = 13
- 2 3 6 sum = 11
- 3 3 4 sum = 10
because the sum of all of them is different except 13, and the insurance guy should know the answer if the house number next-door is not 13, so the sum must be 13
the last clue, 'my eldest daughter plays the piano' therefore the oldest daughter must not be a twin.. which makes 1 6 6 is impossible
the answer is 2 2 9
